The laws governing the supply of number plates in England and Wales have been extended to cover Scotland and N.Ireland. These laws make it difficult to obtain number plates unless you can prove I.D. and entitlement to the registration number. This closes down a loophole whereby drivers in England could order plates from suppliers based in Scotland and N.Ireland, usually over the internet.
