Some Guidance for Correcting Child Bedding Crib Sets as Your Infant Matures

You should follow American Academy of Pediatrics guidance on minimal bedding until your baby is at least a year old because at that age they can push bedding out of their faces. If your child is under a year old, you will probably have to make some modifications to the crib for safety purposes. By the time a baby can sit up, and definitely by the time he or she can stand, lower the mattress in the crib and remove any items that can be used as steps. Crib bumpers should be removed, so as to prevent babies from using it as a foothold to climb over crib rails.

After your child’s first birthday there is a much lower risk of SIDS, meaning that you can add items to make the crib more comfortable and decorative. Comforters and a matching bed skirt can be used to complement the nursery decor. The fuzzy blankets are available in child sizes and they are very cozy and warm. Many toddlers enjoy a stuffed toy in their bed as a familiar companion to help ease them through a nighttime routine, while pillows are generally more appropriate for children closer to age 2.
